Lifecanbemundaneandroutine.Wewakeup,gotoworkorschool,comehome,anddoitalloveragainthenextday.Itcanbeeasytoforgettostopandappreciatethebeautyintheworldaroundus.Thatisuntilwestumbleuponsomethingthatremindsusofthemagicthatexistswithinourmundanelives.Forme,thatremindercameintheformofapoem.

ItallstartedwhenImetagirlnamedLily.Shewasquietandreserved,buthereyeslitupwhenshetalkedaboutpoetry.Ihadneverbeenabigfanofpoetrymyself,butherpassionforitwascontagious.Shewouldshareherfavoritepoemswithme,andIfoundmyselfslowlyfallinginlovewiththeartform.

Oneday,Lilyinvitedmetoapoetryreadingatalocalcafé.Theatmospherewascozyandintimate,withthescentoffreshcoffeelingeringintheair.Asthepoetstookturnsrecitingtheirwork,Ifoundmyselfentrancedbytheirwords.Eachpoemwasaglimpseintothewriter'ssoul,anditwasbeautiful.

Thenextdayatwork,Iwasfeelingparticularlystressedout.Deadlineswerepilingup,andIfeltlikeIwasdrowninginwork.That'swhenIrememberedwhatLilyhadsaid.Idecidedtotakeabreakandlookforapoemthatspoketome.

IstumbleduponapoembyMayaAngeloucalled"StillIRise."Itwasapowerfulreminderthatnomatterwhatobstaclesweface,wehavethestrengthtoovercomethem.Readingthosewordsgavemethemotivationtopushthroughmyworkandtacklemyproblemshead-on.

Astimewenton,LilyandIdriftedapart.Webothgotbusywithourownlivesandlosttouch.Buttheimpactshehadonmestayedwithmeforever.Ievenstartedwritingmyownpoetry,usingitasawaytoexpressmyselfandfindbeautyintheworldaroundme.

Yearswentby,andIfoundmyselfinarutonceagain.Lifehadbecomemonotonous,andIwasdesperateforachange.That'swhenIstumbleduponanopportunitytoattendapoetryworkshopinParis.

Itwasachancetoimmersemyselfintheartformthathadbroughtmesomuchjoyovertheyears.Ipackedmybagsandsetoffonanadventure,unsureofwhatthefutureheld.

TheworkshopwaseverythingIhadhopedforandmore.ThecityofPariswasalivewithpoetry,fromstreetperformersrecitingtheirworktocaféshostingopenmicnights.Iwassurroundedbylike-mindedindividualswhosharedmylovefortheartform.

Onenight,weweretaskedwithwritingapoeminspiredbythecityaroundus.AsIwalkedthestreets,takinginthesightsandsoundsofParis,thewordsflowedfrommeeffortlessly.Ihadneverfeltsoalive.

Attheendoftheworkshop,IreturnedhomewithanewfoundappreciationforpoetryandasenseofinspirationthatIhadbeenlackingforsolong.Lifemaystillbemundaneattimes,butnowIknowhowtofindthemagicinit.

Lookingback,Ican'thelpbutthinkabouthowdifferentmylifewouldbeifIhadnevermetLily.HerpassionforpoetryignitedsomethinginmethatIdidn'tknowexisted.Itjustgoestoshowthatsometimesallittakesisasinglesparktolightafirewithinus.
